Now with people living longer and healthier lives, senior sex is not only becoming more common, it is also believed to be much more satisfying.

People 70 and over and are saying they are having active, fulfilling sex lives.
In 1971 only 52% of 70 year old men said they were having sex compared to 68% in 2010, were the facts discovered by Swedish researchers. Married women reported having less sex with only 38% stating they were having sex in 1971 compared to 56% in 2010.

The professionals state, backed by scientific analysis, that sex is good for you in ways you may never have dreamed about and that the health benefits extend far beyond the bedroom.

It is believed a major health benefit of sex is lower blood pressure and overall stress reduction, according to Scotland抯 researchers, who published their date in the journal Biological Psychology. Other researchers found a connection between partner hugs and lower blood pressure in women, showing a hug a day is not only helpful but an absolute necessity.

Scientists at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., proved that frequent sex (once or twice weekly) heightened the immunity system, improving the ongoing fight against the common cold, to cancer.

It requires effort from both a physical and psychological standpoint, to do it really well. "Sex is a great mode of exercise," says Patti Britton, PhD, a Los Angeles sexologist and president of the American Association of Sexuality Educators and Therapists.

Researchers also found that the risk of fatal heart attack was reduced by half for the men who had sex more than twice a week, compared with those who had sex less than once a month.

The University of Texas researchers, published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, that boosting self-esteem was one of 237 reasons people had sex.

Researchers at Nottingham University discovered that men who practiced a regular sex life in their 50s were also at a decreased risk of developing prostate cancer.

If your headache, arthritis pain, or PMS symptoms seem to decrease following sex, you can thank the higher oxytocin levels. As the hormone oxytocin surges, endorphins increase and pain declines. In a study published in the Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, forty-eight volunteers who breathed in oxytocin vapor and then had their fingers pricked, discovered their pain threshold was lowered by over half. Oxytocin is found to also promote better sleep.

Sex then is seen as an aid in longevity, erectile problems and even heart attacks, apart from the overall well-being of a person.
